Born Richard Martin Lloyd Walters on January 14, 1965 in London and raised in the south west London district of Mitcham, into a British Jamaican family. Positively called Rick the Ruler and Ricky Dee, Slick Rick began his career late in 1983. Exactly the same year, another of his singles titled Children’s Story success the R&B charts scaling at the #5 spot. Nevertheless, Slick Rick was soon arrested after shooting at his cousin, who supposedly harassed Rick’s mom. Prior to being sentenced to five-years in prison, he released the album The Ruler’s Back, which contained Rick’s confession track I Should Not Have Done It. His following releases are the records: Behind Bars (1994) and The Art of Storytelling (1999), each of which hit the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip Hop graphs. A Grammy-nominee, Slick Rick has created music which was regularly tried and interpolated by other artists including TLC, Black Star, The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, and Color Me Badd.
